Testing Can Be ‘Invariably’ Fun
One of the key skills while learning math is abstraction. While we dive deep into algebra, this becomes incredibly important to understand and work with.
Imagine if you took a session on “Introduction to Variables” for Grade 6 students. Your goal is to assess whether the students has understood what a variable is, and why is it needed.
What are some ways in which you can test this out? Share your ideas, thoughts OR (even better) a sample assessment.

This is something I tried to teach variables. And check to see if students understood the need for variables.
Wouldn’t use this as an assessment, however.

I think testing can be fun if we stop calling it a test and start looking at it as a way to see our growth. For me testing is about how much I have grown from my older self. Really wondering how can I show my kids their growth in a fun way instead of having conventional assessments!

The variable is whose value can vary. It can be a date, time, money, month, years, number of anything, count, your class in each year.
So, I took a test of the understanding of variable is I have written down three dates as 12/10/2020,13/10/2020,14/10/2020 and asked them to find variable here.
Find variables in their home as the number of people who came to their home is variable but the number of people who live in their home is constant. They found this type of variability in their surroundings.
