Mathematics is the art of explanation
I read this in a famous paper by the mathematician Lockhart called as Lockhart’s Lament, and this has stuck with me. This is the message which I try to give to anyone who I have the privilege to teach.
In the recent assessment, a lot of students came up with beautiful explanations for various problems. I am sharing some of the student work here.
It gives me immense pleasure to see the understanding being built in the kids. And i believe a good test of understanding is being able to explain something clearly and simply, irrespective of the method you choose.
